Inductive Proximity Switches

Working Principal of Inductive Proximity Switches
An inductive alternating R.F. Field is developed at the front of the sensing surface of the proximity switch. This field is generated by the resonant circuit coil of the oscillator.

Energy is absorbed when a metal piece is brought into the r.f. Field near the sensing surface, causing oscillation to stop. Hance the demodulated voltage feeding the trigger disapears.

For DC Switches
The trigger operates rapidly when oscillation stops and this trigger switches the output transister, which can be either npn or pnp to drive an electronic circuit or relay.

For AC Switches
A thyristor is triggered when oscillation stops due to the presence of metal . This thyristor is connected in series with a bridge and this series combination is connected to the ac load.

Advantages of Inductive Proximity Switches

These switches can be used anywhere where extreme conditions exist, e.g.
1 With lubricants and cutting oils
2 Under vibration
3 Environments where water and steam are present
4 Dusty environments, etc.

Applications of Inductive Proximity Switches
Inductive proximity switches or sensors are primarily used when the object to be is metallic, that is inductive proximity switches are used to detect the position of matals (any type). Some applications of inductive proximity switches are –machin tools, textile, sugar, cement, automobile industries and meny more.

Electric inductive proximity switches are non-contact electronic sensors. They consist of three components - oscillator, trigger and output. Inductive proximity switches are ideal for applications where a metallic target has to be sensed.
